Kathy Down - Senior Paralegal

Ms. Down began her collegiate career in the early 1980s at the University of Nebraska, where she studied medicine. She then transferred her career path to the legal field and graduated with a legal studies degree from Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1985. Since 1985, Ms. Down has worked as a paralegal specializing in personal injury and workers’ compensation litigation. Over the course of her 21-year career in the legal field, she practiced at Healey & Wieland Law Firm, Dowding, Dowding & Dowding Law Firm and Atwood, Holsten & Brown Law Firm. For all but a few of these years, Ms. Down has been the lead paralegal of Raymond P. Atwood, Jr., with whom she is currently associated.


Ms. Down was born in Ellsworth, Kansas, but considers Lincoln her home having lived here since she was 2 years old. She is married and has two active boys. In her spare time (what little there is!) she enjoys family activities, gardening, her dogs and horseback riding.

Deanna Christiansen - Paralegal

Ms. Christiansen is an honors graduate of the Lincoln School of Commerce where she received an Associates Degree of Applied Sciences of Legal Assisting. She began her legal career six years ago as an intern with Atwood, Holsten & Brown and was hired as a full-time paralegal upon graduation. Ms. Christiansen works primarily with attorney Ryan Holsten and focuses on workers’ compensation litigation.


Ms. Christiansen is originally from Grand Island, Nebraska but has resided in Lincoln for the past 20 years. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, working, reading, dancing, bowling and playing softball.

Mona Slama - Paralegal

Ms. Slama began her career in the legal field in 1984 with Gorsuch, Kirgis, Campbell, Walker and Grover in Denver, Colorado. Prior to returning to her native Nebraska in 1995, Ms. Slama honed her legal skills while working for several distinguished firms in Denver, including two national firms. The bulk of Ms. Slama’s experience has been in litigation, focusing on personal injury, commercial and construction litigation, domestic relations, product liability matters, and insurance defense and FELA cases.

Following eight years of service to another prominent firm in Lincoln, Ms. Slama joined Atwood, Holsten & Brown in September 2006. She brings with her more than two decades of legal experience, and is delighted with her new association and the opportunity it brings to serve clients alongside such a fine group of seasoned professionals. Ms. Slama currently assists attorneys Ellen Deaver and Eric Brown in both workers’ compensation

A fourth-generation Nebraskan, Ms. Slama was born in Kearney, Nebraska in 1960. She is married with two grown children and in her spare time enjoys family activities, piano, creative writing and entertaining.

Annie Bossard - Paralegal

Ms. Bossard was born and raised in Lincoln and graduated from the University of Nebraska in December of 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies. After graduation, she continued in her position as a Data Collector for Region V Systems. In January of 2006, Ms. Bossard and her newlywed husband headed to Santiago, Chile, where they taught English for seven months. Upon returning to Nebraska in August of 2006, Ms. Bossard decided to pursue a career in the legal field with Atwood, Holsten and Brown Law Firm. She is currently training to become a paralegal.

In her free time, Ms. Bossard enjoys traveling, being outdoors, spending quality time with family and friends, and participating in church activities and musical theatre.
